Basmat Al Khair Initiative for Doing Good
The Basmat Al Khair initiative emerged with the noble idea of digging wells as a form of ongoing charity, inspired by the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, who emphasized providing water as one of the best forms of charity. Initially, the plan was shared within a close-knit community, where it garnered significant support and enthusiasm, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan.
The initial intention was to dig a single well, but the overwhelming passion and acceptance from all involved led to the expansion of the project. The idea was then presented to various departments within Al Madina Takaful, receiving a warm welcome and strong backing. Additionally, non-Omani participants also joined this charitable endeavor, showcasing solidarity, teamwork, and a commitment to social responsibility both within and beyond the Sultanate of Oman.
The initiative quickly partnered with Gulf Company, a leading firm specializing in well digging. With their expertise, two wells were successfully dug, one in Bangladesh and the other in Pakistan. Each well provides clean water for 25 people daily and includes a fruit-bearing tree and a trough for watering animals. These wells are maintained annually and have a lifespan of over 25 years.
Water is a precious resource that sustains all forms of life, particularly human life. Many communities still suffer from a lack of access to this essential resource due to drought and limited means. The Islamic faith emphasizes the importance of providing water to those in need and considers water charity among the best acts of kindness, as highlighted by the Prophet Muhammad.
This initiative not only addresses the immediate need for clean water but also sets a precedent for future voluntary projects, both within and outside the Sultanate. By fostering a culture of giving and collective effort, the Basmat Al Khair initiative exemplifies the profound impact of community-driven charitable actions.
